How girlgroup started

Whenever people ask why I started girlgroup, my answer is simple: I needed it.

In 2023, after a 4-year relationship ended, I found myself lonelier than ever. I tried events, I tried other apps, but nothing felt like the community I was craving. So I decided to build it.

At the time, Melissa and I were burnt out at a big tech company. One day I woke up, said “Today’s the day,” and quit. Then I convinced Melissa to take the leap with me.

Today, girlgroup is a thriving community where women can show up alone and instantly feel like they're part of the friend group. 💖

What is girlgroup?

girlgroup is an app and in-person membership community for women who want to make new friends and do fun things!

Every month, members get access to free events, discounted tickets on premium experiences, and access to the amazing community on our app.

Most members are in their 20's and 30's, but all women 18+ are welcome to join!

How old are girlgroup members?

girlgroup is designed for women in their 20s and 30s.

How can I join?

Search "girlgroup" in the App Store, download the app, and you can apply to join from there!

If you don't have an iPhone, you can join by going to girlgroup.la/members.

Approval usually takes less than 48 hours. Once approved, you'll be able to select a membership and officially join!

Are events solo friendly?

Absolutely, that's what girlgroup is all about! Every event is designed so that you can show up solo and leave with new friends.

Can members host their own events?

Yes, girlgroup members are welcome to host their own events! We see a lot of girls planning dinners, book swaps, happy hours, trivia nights and more.

Are there public events for non-members?

Yes! Although if the math is mathing, it typically makes more sense financially to join as a member for one month than to buy a public ticket. But whatever feels better for you, we're just happy to have you there!
